Excellent reading and and really easy to understand and implement in practice
Key area of study for early years practitioners and important for them to feel confident in teaching maths to young children. Important for practitioners to be aware of strategies to use to teach maths through play not only direct instruction.
Clear and well written with interesting concepts. Easy to access for undergraduate students.
A curriculum supportive text. The area of Mathematics in Early Years education has not been widely or effectively addressed. This text begins to address the 'gap'.
I have recommended this book to Early Years Foundation Degree Students and I have added it to the book list in a unit which is concerned with planning maths through play. It is an interesting read with clear ideas about how to engage children in maths through books and oral story telling. It explains the difference between reading and story telling. It also combines theory alongside these ideas. I particularly liked the reference to cultural tools for literacy and mathematical thinking.
This book is more suited to a level 2 learner rather than level 3 upwards. It has some good ideas that could be adapted.
A text packed with practical examples and resources which was expected based on the book description, but it met it's promise brilliantly. It presents students with numerous examples to try for themselves and develop their own ideas from.
Lots of really practical ideas with examples of teacher interaction and possible next steps. Easily accessible and easy to use the ideas.
