Randall Lindsey

Randall B. Lindsey, Ph.D., is emeritus professor at California State University, Los Angeles and has a practice centered on educational consulting and issues related to equity and access. Most recently he served as Interim Dean of Education at California Lutheran University. His career has focused on diversity and equity issues. Prior to higher education faculty roles, he served as a junior and senior high school history teacher, a district office administrator for school desegregation, and executive director of a non-profit corporation. He works with colleagues to design and implement programs for and with schools, law enforcement agencies, and community-based organizations to provide access and achievement. Stephanie Graham-Rivas

Stephanie Graham-Rivas is a Consultant for Diversity, Equity and Student Achievement. She recently retired from the Los Angeles County Office of Education where she developed training programs for teachers, administrators and other support staff in the 81 school districts in her county to help them understand and dismantle the various barriers to equity that lead to disenfranchisement and educational gaps for students. She has been a teacher and administrator at the elementary, secondary and university level for 36 years.

Stephanie has been honored by many educational and public service agencies for her outstanding leadership in developing and implementing programs that enhance and support the value of diversity. Ms. Graham’s programs have been honored among the nation’s 100 most “promising practices” by “One America in the 21st Century” – President Clinton’s initiative on race relations. In 1999 and 2001, Stephanie was named Diversity Educator of the Year by the Association of California School Administrators. Delores B. Lindsey, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor at California State University, San Marcos and former high school teacher, middle school and county office administrator. As a professor of educational administration, she works with school districts, boards, teachers, administrators, and parents to use the Tools of Cultural Proficiency to shape their educational practices, policies, and procedures. She has taught elementary and middle school and is a former school site and county office administrator. Reyes L. Quezada Ed.D., has been a teacher, teacher educator and professor for the past 28 years and has been serving at the University of San Diego, San Diego California since 1999. Dr. Quezada has presented at numerous international, national, and state conferences. His teaching and research focus on issues of equity, international education, and inclusion and diversity. Jarvis Pahl

Jarvis V.N.C. Pahl Ed.D. is a co-author of the bestselling book, Culturally Proficient Learning Communitiesand founder of The Discovertorium: Science & Humankind Museum. She is executive director of Pahl Business & Educational Consortium and was a faculty member in the Graduate School of Education’s School Management Program at UCLA. Her worldwide travels in Asia, Africa, Europe, North America, South America, Antarctica, and the Arctic Circle netted great experiences in cuisine delights and meeting people.
Now retired, she and her husband of 39 years live part time in Mexico where she enjoys learning Spanish. As an educator, she worked in high schools and school districts in California, Maryland and Botswana and as a business consultant; she designed, planned, and facilitated hundreds of learning experiences. She believes every individual has a gift in leadership in something unique to them. We are obliged to share at least one of our gifts during our journey here on earth.

Diana L. Stephens

Diana L. Stephens

Diana Stephens is an author/consultant with Corwin. She maintains a consulting practice in educational and organizational settings. She recently retired from her position as an Associate Professor in the Graduate School of Education at California Lutheran University. Her collaborative work with leadership teams in K-12 schools and in higher education focuses on capacity building, facilitating strategic planning, and cultivating culturally competent practices. Diana was recently honored by the California Association of School Counselors as the 2016 Counselor Advocate of the Year in recognition of her advocacy for diversity, inclusion, and equity in the workplace. Her work in public schools is preceded by more than 25 years experience in clinical counseling, consultation, supervision and administration in the non-profit sector. She co-authored with Randall B. Lindsey the book titled Culturally Proficient Collaboration: Use and Misuse of School Counselors.

John Krownapple

John Krownapple

John Krownapple specializes in raising the cross-cultural effectiveness of clients. Since 2007, he has led the development and implementation of one the first and most comprehensive cultural proficiency programs in the United States. John continues to administer this program for the Howard County Public School System (MD) in his role of Coordinator for Cultural Proficiency. He has used the cultural proficiency framework with school system staff groups, system partners, community leaders, government officials, students, and families. Results include improved morale in schools; improved access to academic opportunities for all students; improved student engagement with learning; and greater cultural competency on the part of teachers, administrators, and staffs. As an educator for two decades, John has served as a district office administrator, professional development facilitator, curriculum specialist, and elementary teacher. He is an adjunct professor at Johns Hopkins University and McDaniel College and a consultant for several not-for-profit organizations.

Lewis Bundy

Lewis Bundy

Lewis G. Bundy has spent his career working for social justice. He has been a teacher, a community organizer, and a desegregation consultant. As an organization development consultant, he provides training and technical assistance to educational and non-profit agencies. His focus is on helping teens and young adults develop the skills to become highly functioning citizens, and helping the adults who work with them to respond appropriately to their needs. He is an advocate for community based program development and organization, and is active in promoting local community initiatives to problem solving. He has extensive experience in youth leadership development and empowerment, conflict resolution, dealing with racism and student success. He received a BA from Occidental College, MA in Educational Administration from San Francisco State University and pursued additional graduate studies in Educational Research and Evaluation at UCLA.

Cynthia Jew

Cynthia Jew

Cynthia Jew, Ph.D. is a Professor in the Graduate School of Education at California Lutheran University. She teaches in the Counseling Program and uses cultural proficiency in the context of teaching classes. She also consults and contributes to the conversations about diversity in the higher education context.
She has served as a school psychologist at several schools in Colorado and as an assistant professor of education at Tennessee State University, Kent State, University of Colorado at Denver and the University of Redlands.

In addition to her work as a psychologist, she was the Program Coordinator for the School Counseling and PPS Credential Program. Ian Jones

Ian Jones

Ian Jones, retired principal of Milton District High School, has been an educator for over 43 years. During this time, the concepts of diversity and tolerance have been a constant theme in his career. Ian has led students to numerous Holocaust sites, and has encouraged the study of the Shoah in every discipline in his high school. Through his leadership, the school has written new courses, performed original dramas, and hosted a major conference on Holocaust education. Ian has been the recipient of the Ontario Government’s Newcomers Champion Award, and has received the Halton District School Board Award of Excellence. He was chosen as the town of Milton’s Citizen of the Year, and was named one of 30 educators selected as Canada’s Outstanding Principals. Ian has been nominated by Yad Vashem Canada for the Ontario Government’s Lifetime Achievement Award and is a recipient of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal. Ian is regularly invited to speak about “One School, One Voice, One World”…the story of Milton District High School. He lives with his wife, Anne, in Campbellville, Ontario.

Natalie McGee

Natalie McGee is an experienced educational coach and facilitator who has taught for more than a decade in the public school setting. A graduate of Baker University’s school leadership program, she has served eight years as a district-level instructional coach and facilitator for the Wichita Public School system. Supporting and supervising leaders and teachers in a district with over 60 elementary schools has provided Ms. McGee with practical experience for translating research into practice for student success.
During her 18-year career, she also served as an adjunct professor for a local university and has presented her own research at several conferences. McGee is a national presenter on topics such as Cultural Proficiency, Common Core State Standards (CCSS) implementation, Mutli-Tiered System of Support (MTSS), Caring Teachers Connect, as well as Building Vocabulary Skills, and Reading Comprehension. She has conducted state education department workshops thoughout the state of Kansas and numerous nationwide workshops for districts and schools.
As an Educational Consultant of Generation Ready, she assisted in designing district cultural proficiency modules for customers and continuous learning modules for company employees. Ms. McGee, a coach for both Leaders and Teachers, specializes in combining research-based strategies with practical applications. Her work with classroom teachers and school administrators within the Little Rock, AR school district resulted in gains in student achievement. She is a strong advocate for children and believes in collaboration to assist families in helping children to be successful in school, and in life.

Joseph Domingues

Joseph Domingues

In 2005, Joe started his administrative career in the Salinas Union High School District as Interim Assistant Director of Mission Trails Regional Occupation Program (ROP). From 2006-2008, he served as Assistant Principal for the Community Education Center in the Soledad Unified School District, Soledad , California. Following a highly successful administrative assignment, he was appointed Principal of Soledad High School and served from 2008-2010. In 2010, he returned home to Santa Maria, California, when he was appointed Principal of his alma mater, Santa Maria High School, where he continues to serve in this capacity.

Peter Flores III

Peter Flores III

Peter Flores III is the Assistant Principal of Student Affairs at Santa Maria High School in Santa Maria, California. After honorably serving in the United States Navy for 25 years, Peter retired as a Command Master Chief and began his second career in education as a teacher. While serving in the service, he obtained an Associate of Arts in Business Administration from West Hills College and Bachelor of Science in Liberal Arts with a focus in Administrative and Management studies from Excelsior College.

Jamie Welborn

Jaime E. Welborn, Ph.D. Candidate, is a Graduate Assistant in Educational Leadership at Saint Louis University in St. Louis, Missouri. She has served as an elementary school assistant principal in the Rockwood School District, located in Missouri, and a middle school mathematics teacher and elementary school teacher in rural and urban public schools in Illinois. Jaime’s experiences in education over the past twelve years have been in working with diverse populations, and her work and other life experiences have contributed to her passion in studying the achievement gap, educational equity, social justice, and culturally proficient leadership. Jaime lives in St. Louis with her husband and two daughters.

On the tails of a decade in experimental neuroscience Kelly is shifting her focus to educational outreach and empowerment. She translates empirical neuroscience and psychology principles into brain-based applications. Currently she is teaching as adjunct faculty in the Masters in Clinical Psychology Program at Antioch University Los Angeles and the psychology department at Moorpark College in Simi Valley. Kelly is devoted to progress through increasing brain awareness.

Karen M. Kearney

Karen Kearney is the Director of the Leadership Initiative at WestEd and a Senior Program Associate for the California Comprehensive Center, a federally funded technical assistance center. She specializes in convening and facilitating state- and district-level networks of leaders focused on transforming educator development and support systems by changing state and local policies and practices. Ms. Kearney has an extensive background in school and district administrator training and coaching, standards development, materials and resource design, and principal evaluation, working with many states and districts to plan and implement programs to develop principals, central office administrators and superintendents.

Delia Estrada is a Ph.D. candidate at Claremont Graduate University and is currently Principal at Taft Charter High School in Woodland Hills, California with LAUSD. She has served as a middle school and high school teacher, program specialist for English Language Learners, History/Social Science Specialist, and assistant principal. She concentrates her work on the fundamental belief that educators can and will meet the demands of eradicating inequity through collaboration, communication and community building. She is committed to creating, using the tools of cultural proficiency, building safe environments to engage in fierce conversation and reflective practice. In so doing, teachers will and are capable of influencing the world: one lesson and one interaction at a time. She also lives through the principle that laughter, relationship and understanding, anything is possible.

Tracey DuEst

Tracey DuEst

Tracey is currently a Diversity & Inclusion Consultant who has over 12 years of experience teaching & facilitating workshops in both the public and private sectors. She has extensive experience as a facilitator specializing in team building, instructor leadership, and diversity issues in the non-profit, government agencies and educational arenas. Tracey is also currently an adjunct faculty member in the Education Department at Xavier University and has worked extensively with multi-racial families and other diversity issues. She has received several recognitions and awards for her service, such as YWCA Rising Star Award, and is a regular guest speaker in various local forums on issues of race, gender, sexual orientation, and other dimensions of difference. Tracey completed her M.Ed in Humane Education and did her thesis work on the impact of human differences. She is also a Certified Enneagram Teacher & Trainer through Enneagram Worldwide, Certified in the Enneagram and Coaching Program, and considers the Enneagram one of her primary tools for continued introspection and growth. Her children, Trey and Tera, are her biggest teachers and a major reason why she has dedicated her life to being on the cultural proficiency journey.

Dr. Jacqueline Thousand is a professor in the special education teacher preparation and graduate program in the School of Education at Cal State University San Marcos. She is a noted inclusive education advocate who has co-authored 20 books and numerous research articles and chapters on issues related to co-teaching, inclusive schooling, organizational change strategies, differentiated instruction and universal design, cooperative learning, collaborative teaming processes, creative problem solving, student self-determination, and discipline with dignity. She is actively involved in international teacher education and inclusive education endeavors and serves on the editorial and advisory boards of several national and international journals and professional organizations.

Brandy Archer

Brandy Archer

Brandy Archer, Ed.D. is the Content Area Literacy Consultant for the Curriculum and Instruction unit in the Office of Education and Improvement and Innovation at the Michigan Department of Education. Her current work includes Intentional Instructional Practice in early literacy and mathematics. In addition, she supports closing the achievement gap by providing academic and climate and culture support through cultural proficiency training for the African American Young Men of Promise Initiative. Brandy holds a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Lamar University where she completed her dissertation of a mixed methods case study on teacher leaders’ growth in the essential elements of cultural proficiency. Brandy also holds a Masters in Curriculum & Teaching from Michigan State University and a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from Michigan State University.

 Jill Griffin

Jill Griffin

Jill Griffin is the Urban Education Consultant for the Curriculum and Instruction unit in the Office of Education and Improvement and Innovation at the Michigan Department of Education. Jill also serves as the state mathematics consultant. Her current work includes providing Intentional Instructional Practices for the early literacy and early mathematics initiative. In addition, Jill works with schools to close the achievement gap through the statewide project African American Young Men of Promise Initiative (AAYMPI). The work through the AAYMPI includes providing academic and climate and culture supports through a cultural proficiency lens.

Jill received a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Mathematics Education from Eastern Michigan University, Masters of Educational Leadership from Lamar University. She also received her doctorate in Educational Leadership from Lamar University where her research dissertation focused on the school principals’ self-perceptions of growth in the essential elements of cultural proficiency.

Rosemary Smith

Dr. Rosemary T. Smith is a retired educator with over 47 years of dedication to the fields of education and training. Promoting the implementation of Clark County School District’s cultural diversity initiatives as a member of the Equity and Diversity Education Department, Dr. Smith has been able to provide assistance to educators in creating culturally supportive and inclusive learning environments that hold high expectations for the academic achievement of all students. Additionally, she has worked with school administrators to resolve diverse educational issues affecting educators, students, parents, and community.

Earlier in her career, Dr. Smith served as Coordinator of Staff Development and Cross-Cultural Education Programs at Prince George’s Community College, in Largo, Maryland. She assisted with Staff Development programs for the entire college community, along with Cross Cultural Education programs for staff and students in the surrounding community. She has presented at international conferences in the Bahamas and Puerto Rico and has traveled to other two-year and four-year institutions to create programs that met the multicultural needs of students and staff.

Dr. Smith has been educated by the best scholars in the Cultural Proficiency realms. She is pleased to have over 47 years of “sharing the knowledge” with several generations of students, administrators, and community members.

Lori Piowlski

Lori Piowlski

Lori Piowlski, Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor in the Elementary and Early Childhood Department at Minnesota State University, Mankato and has a practice centered on educational literacy, assessment advancement and issues related to equity and access. Prior to higher education faculty roles, she served as an elementary and special education teacher pre-k through grade 12. The majority of her experiences have been working with diverse populations and her area of study is cultural proficient teaching. Her passion is to influence teacher candidates to become globally competent and empower them to differentiate their instruction to meet the needs of all 21st Century students.
