From the moment I started to read this book it quickly became a resource I used with the university students I support. I would highly recommend this book, as an extremely useful toolkit packed with practical advice, tips and hints to help the dyslexic learner at university.

Dyslexia Review

The key strengths of this text are in providing a multitude of learning strategies for dyslexia. The text makes sure to inform the reader that dyslexia does not have a universal learning strategy, but that each student requires a learning strategy that is unique to them and their form of dyslexia... The learning strategies addressed in the text range from assisting dyslexic students who suffer from organization issues, text book reading issues, time management, and even note taking in class.

Another really practical study guide form SAGE, whose reputation in this field is well-established.
Stadents and the staff who teach them can both benefit from adopting the approaches and strategies proposed in this book.

I ordered inspection copies of two study skills guides for dyslexic students (both, incidentally published by SAGE). I wanted to see why SAGE published two and what the difference was between them. I ordered two guides, planning to choose between them to recommend one for my students. I have put both guides on my reading list: Hargreaves for the CD Rom and Gribben for the excellent text, which is written and designed with utmost care to communicate to dyslexic students. Not all of my dyslexic students would like the Hargreaves text, but I expect all of them to find the Gribben book accessible.

A great book/companion for new university students with OR without dyslexia. I have used this with new students already, as it reminds me how daunting life in university can be. This tool kit (book) offers practical and thoughtful support to both student and mentor. I thoroughly recommend this book.

The book contains a range of activities for supporting learners with dyslexia. There is an excellent chapter on assignment writing including a table on the use of quotations and an activity to check knowledge of writing conventions. The chapter on referencing is useful for all students but it would have been helpful to include also an example from an edited book and possibly a conference paper. Very interesting chapter on feedback that encourages students to use it effectively.
