Many Response to Intervention (RTI) models were developed to identify specific learning disabilities in English-speaking students. When using RTI with culturally and linguistically diverse students, especially non-native English speakers and those with limited English proficiency, educators must look beyond students' academic performance in reading and mathematics to address complex learning and behavior issues.

This text has been adopted for the reading specialist instruction course. Our teachers need to make sure that diverse learners are focused upon as they implement the RtI programs in their classrooms. One of the roles that our reading specialist have to assume in their schools is a resource for the classroom teacher. This text provides the reading specialist with the tools that will help the classroom teacher enhance learning for all students.
