Metcalf, Linda

Linda Metcalf, PhD, is a former middle school teacher, elementary and secondary school counselor, licensed professional counselor, and licensed marriage and family therapist. She is the author of five books on solution-focused therapy and counseling, and has presented her work on solution-focused therapy to teachers, counselors, school psychologists, and therapists internationally in over 300 workshops. She is a frequent presenter at the American School Counselor Association, the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, and The Milton Erickson Evolution of Psychotherapy Conference. She is a national board member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy and has been President of the Texas division.

Dr. Metcalf has adapted her work in solution-focused therapy to bring about positive results in teaching, counseling, parenting, group therapy, special education, alternative school settings, and discipline. Her presentations incorporate lecture, role play, movie clips, and video case studies of adolescents and children to illustrate the solution-focused approach. She is an Associate Professor at Texas Wesleyan University, where she teaches school counseling. She has also taught Family Therapy at Texas Woman's University in Denton, Texas. She lives in Arlington, Texas.
