Carolyn M. Callahan received her Ph.D. in the area of Educational Psychology with an emphasis in gifted educa-tion from the University of Connecticut. Since that time she has been on the faculty of the University of Virginia where she has developed the graduate program in gifted education, the Summer and Saturday Program for gifted students, and has been the director of the University of Virginia National Research Center on the Gifted and Talented for the past 12 years.

Her interests and research are in autism spectrum disorders, emotional and behavior disorders, and disability and the link to delinquency and adult incarceration. She received her doctorate from the University of Kansas.

Stephen W. Smith is a Professor in the Department of Special Education at the University of Florida (UF). Prior to receiving his Ph.D. in Special Education from the University of Kansas, he was a teacher of special education students for eight years. Dr.

Donald D. Deshler is one of the best-known and well-respected researchers in the field of special education at the secondary level and is a leading scholar in the area of bringing research into practice. He is the director of the University of Kansas Center for Research on Learning, which has been providing specialized training to secondary special education teachers for over 20 years, and a member of the Advisory Board of the National Institute for Literacy.

Dorothy Sisk holds an endowed chair in education of gifted students at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. Throughout her career, she has been intensely involved with the education of gifted and talented children. Sisk is an international consultant focusing on leadership, communication, and creativity development.
