Dr. Edward (Eddie) Fergus is Professor of Urban Education in the School of Arts and Sciences at Rutgers University – Newark. Prior to joining Rutgers University – Newark, Dr.

Terry Wilhelm, M.A., has served as a teacher, principal, district office and area service agency administrator, and university adjunct professor in educational leadership. Her work with principals and school leadership teams spans over fifteen years and is the basis for this book. Lotus Linton Howard, Ph.D., has taught in a variety of elementary school settings, including public, private, inner city, small town, rural and reservations schools. She created and taught for several years in a one-room country school, grades 1-8. Over forty years of teaching she has worked with children from very diverse cultural backgrounds and has observed, first-hand, how culture influences one’s perceptions, cognition, communication and attitudes.

Deborah Rosalea Esparza is a retired teacher, principal and district administrator. In her years as  practicing school leader,  Deborah advocated for culturally responsive instruction for all students in a 21st Century Learning framework.

Marcus J. Newsome is the director of the Virginia Superintendents Leadership Academy. Previously he served for 16 years as an award-winning school superintendent in Newport News, Chesterfield County and Petersburg City (Virginia). In 2015 his work was recognized by the U.S. Office of Educational Technology during a White House ceremony as a leader in transforming schools from a print to a digital learning environment.

Shawn Slakk is the CEO and Founder of ABCDSS Consulting Consortium and works with teachers, administrators, school & state agencies to offer strategies and supports for emergent bilinguals and their classmates both K-12 and adults.

Olivia Amador Valerio, EdD, was a bilingual teacher in an elementary school, as well as a principal, in San Diego. She holds teaching and administrative services credentials in California and earned her doctoral degree in educational leadership from San Diego State University.
