Jailall, Jerry M.

Mahatam S. Jailall

Jerry M. Jailall recently served as the state coordinator for the federal Comprehensive School Reform program and as a Title 1 Consultant at the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. He has worked with 172 elementary, middle, and high schools implementing school reform initiatives. He previously coordinated the NC School Improvement Grants program in 107 school districts under the standards-based GOALS 2000 federal initiative.

Joy L. Navan

Joy L. Navan directs the Center for Gifted Studies at Murray State University in Kentucky, where she serves as an associate professor and program director for the graduate endorsement program in gifted and talented education. Navan is a certified practitioner of the Annemarie Roeper Method of Qualitative Assessment® and performs assessments in English and Spanish.

Stivers is associate professor of special education at Marist College, School of Social and Behavioral Sciences, member of the Board of Directors of the Northeastern Educational Research Association, and member of the Board of Directors of Literacy Volunteer of America, Dutchess Community Chapter. She has been a general education teacher, a special education teacher, principal of a special education preschool, Director of Special Education for 20 years, and is currently an Adjunct Professor at the State University of New York at New Paltz.

She has years of experience as an elementary education teacher, middle school resource teacher, high school special education teacher, and college instructor. She has co-authored articles on inclusion and student teaching. She has received awards for her excellence in instruction at the college level and was the recipient of the student teacher of the year award during her internship semester.

Guzman, Irene

Irene Guzman

Irene Guzman has been teaching in the Santa Unified School District for 14 years. She is currently teaching third grade at Heninger Elementary School. She has dedicated her efforts to differentiate the curriculum for gifted English language learners. She has worked closely with teachers to improve support for the specific needs of gifted students in the urban setting. Guzman has worked under the USC Javits Grant as a mentor and a coach.

Susan A. Conklin Thompson

Susan Conklin Thompson is a professor at the University of Northern Colorado, where she coordinates the early childhood program and teaches early childhood and elementary education courses. Thompson has authored numerous articles, two multicultural books for children, and eight books for teachers, including Children as Illustrators: Making Meaning through Art and Language (National Association for the Education of Young Children).
